Walk to the Chalet d’Ablon

In this post I will tell you about the release I made to test the capabilities of my new Nikon Z7 II camera and its 100-400mm telephoto lens. After a day of intense rain in all the Alps, I set my sights on the Ablon Gorges. It is a place that does not look and is not particularly distinguished from the wonders that can be found in Haute-Savoie but it is a little known grassy mini-valley, relatively accessible, and in which you feel rather good I find. Notice to climbers, the cliff of Ablon is equipped and the rock is exceptional as it is little frequented.

I started my walk at the Molliets car park 600 meters below. The first part consists of an ascent in the heart of the Forêt Domaniale de la Haute-Fillière. I had to cross several streams at high flow and part of the trail turned into a river.

After half an hour of climbing, we begin to see in the distance the Montagne de Sous-Dîne which is partially eneigée and veiled by low clouds.

By continuing about fifteen minutes in the forest the climb finally softens to the delight of my thighs and we enter the Valley of Ablon.

The Ablon Valley offers a breathtaking view of the Frêtes Mountain which is in the sun at that time. For my part, a gigantic low cloud preserves the shade and freshness in the Ablon Valley.

On one of the edges of the Ablon Valley is an impressive cliff starting its width. It is largely equipped and makes it an exceptional place to climb and bivouac.

The Ablon Valley ends with a gigantic cliff at the foot of which is the village of Balme-de-thuy. That day, a dark cloud tries to envelop the valley and comes crashing against the Passage de la Bourse which allows to reach the village 1000 meters lower.

The weather at the descent, by the same path as the one I climbed, offered me an interesting spectator, mixing clouds and fir forests.

For those of you who would like to have the GPS position of Chalet d’Ablon, I share it with great pleasure!
